Attached are some images from my time reading to the students at the Early Learning Academy. I have also included images of some of the books donated to some of the classrooms, which were also featured in March and February's book of the month lists.

I am deeply grateful to have gotten the opportunity to share an often-overlooked black narrative at the North Carolina Conference for Social Studies. Engaging with professors and early education teachers across diverse regions of North Carolina provided valuable insights into the incorporation of black stories and culture within their curricula. Through these conversions, I discovered the gaps in representation within classrooms and identified those most in need of support through book donations. The experience was enlightening, highlighting the crucial role of diverse stories in fostering an inclusive educational environment.

My first project is sharing some untold stories of historical black figures to children, in their classrooms, for Black History Month. It is so important for our youth to feel connected to and know about their heritage. Typically information on the same small group of well-known historical figures are taught in school every year. My goal is to highlight underreported stories. Throughout the process of planning this event I’ve really enjoyed getting the opportunity to reconnect with old teachers and people in my community. I am so excited for the upcoming plans as well so stay tuned!

Meet our Director, a Sophomore at Hayfield Secondary School who has a deep passion for inclusivity and social justice. Inspired by her older sister Ava's work, Ella plans to bring new ideas to Represented Reading. She is excited to share her perspectives and get hands-on experience visiting elementary schools and reading to classrooms.
